SFGATE LOGO ANIMATION

Overview

SFGATE is the Bay Area’s most visited local website, hosting content from various partners like AP, Bay City News, Washington Post, Business Insider, and more. With page views exceeding 140 million views per month, readers will find breaking news and other news-of-the-day features such as weather, traffic, real-time sports coverage, pop culture features and other buzzworthy topics. With all the video content hosted on SFGATE, a logo animation with sound would appear at the end of every video to help re-enforce the SFGATE brand.

My Role

Provided only a 3-sec time duration and the vectorized logo, I explored different ways to introduce the SFGATE logo visually through motion graphics. Once the motion graphic options were created, I tested different sound effects to implement with the animation.

Final Version

The following animation was chosen as the final version. The sequential appearance of “S” + “F” helped match the emphasis when pronouncing SFGATE. The delayed pause before “GATE” introduces makes sure that there is enough separation between both portions of the pronunciation.

Un-Published Options

These versions were part of my brainstorming and concepts, yet they did not make the final cut.
